Did you know that all our Defenders are sourced, restored, and imported from South Africa? We’ve perfected this process and have successfully imported hundreds of custom Land Rover Defenders into the US. But how do we do it? Truthfully, it’s easy to say, but behind the scenes, a lot of paperwork, a lot of processes, and a lot of the right networks are how we’re able to accomplish sourcing, customizing, and exporting a fully restored Defender across waters onto US soil.

THE BUILD

When a client approaches us with interest in purchasing a custom Land Rover Defender, they either know exactly what they want or, at the very least, have a pretty good idea.

When it comes to the aesthetics and performance enhancements of a Defender, it’s important to us that our clients remain the designers of their vehicle. We merely facilitate, advise, and offer guidance in the restoration and renovation of their Defender.

After careful planning, decision-making, and final client approval over the interior and exterior design and overall mechanics and performance enhancements, our South African team gets to work.

SOURCING

Land Rover Defenders have a long history in South Africa; from the late 1960s to the 1990s, the Defender was assembled in Blackheath, Cape Town. This created a substantial local supply of Defender vehicles and the required skills to refurbish them. It is for this exact reason that the Classic Overland team operates out of South Africa.

Our local workshop is where all the magic happens. Our team of mechanics and designers applies a dedicated refurbishing and customization process to the vehicles, tailored to each customer’s requirements.

LOGISTICS

On completion of the build and our client’s approval feedback, we move on to the export and import process.

Working with two governments to bring Land Rover Defender rebuilds into the US comes with stringent policies and regulations. Our import and export specialist, legal, and operations team takes care of the safe transport of all Classic Overland Defenders onto US soil while ensuring compliance with US regulatory requirements.
